MGM/United Artists' film Ghost World was released in 2001 to major critical acclaim. It is a film adaptation of underground comix artist Dan Clowes' most popular series, spinning the raw-edged tale of two teenage girls who are out of sync with the world around them and is considered Scarlett Johansson's breakthrough starring role.

The soundtrack is a mixture of atmospheric Blues and West Indian music transferred from vintage 78s, Indian film soundtrack music, new recordings of vintage Jazz, and original scoring by David Kitay (Clueless, Scary Movie).
