RITA MARLEY

Rita Marley, the wife of the late legend Bob Marley, upholds the artistic and cultural ideals of reggae and takes it to new heights. Inspiring reggae with hints of gospel, rhythm & blues, jazz, soca, and more, her music has the ability to hold itself in the hearts of listeners. Her career started with the musical trio The Soulettes, which is also where she met Bob Marley. Later, she would provide him with vocal support as a member of the I-Threes.

Rita Marley released her solo debut Who Feels It Knows It in 1981. The sizzling hit single “One Draw” became the first reggae single to top Billboard's disco singles chart. She later released 1988's Harambe (Working Together for Freedom), followed it with Grammy-nominated We Must Carry On in 1991, and then Rita Marley Sings Bob Marley...and Friends in 2003.

Her knack for combining the elements of spirit and dance in her music made her destined to become an integral part of reggae. About the message in her music, she states "The message is joy, loving and living together, no fighting, no war. Reggae is the heartbeat of a person. It’s the people’s music."
