NAJEE
In a world where trends and artists come and go, saxophonist/flautist Najee’s name is synonymous with innovation, consistency and the best in contemporary jazz. As an artist who has had Gold and Platinum records, he is one of a relatively small number of jazz artists who have achieved pop success yet still command the respect of serious jazz fans. He’s worked with a virtual who’s-who in music including such artists as Stevie Wonder, Quincy Jones and Herbie Hancock. A graduate of the New England Conservatory of Music, he began his performing career performing with Chaka Khan. In the late 1980’s, he launched his solo career and scored urban radio hits along with gold-selling albums, winning two Soul Tran Awards along the way. His stature was confirmed when he was invited to perform at Nelson Mandela’s Birthday Concert and as a special guest of President Bill Clinton at an event honoring President Jerry Rawlings of the Republic of Ghana. With widespread touring both nationally and internationally and a consistent stream of acclaimed albums, Najee stands as one of the foremost practitioners of contemporary jazz.
