BASIA
Like unique genre –bending artists Sade and Michael Franks, the sublime vocalist Basia blends elements of jazz, pop and world music into an irresistible, deceptively smooth—and multi-million-selling—listening experience. Emerging from the global jazz-pop hitmakers Matt Bianco, Basia first album “Time and Tide” sold over 2e million copies worldwide and spawned a pop hit with the title track. Her second album spawned such Adult Contemporary hits as “New Day for You” and “Promises” while subsequent releases variously hit the jazz, pop, adult contemporary and dance charts, a testament to the wide-ranging aspect of her music. There is always a strong Brazilian element in her music as well as jazz but always in the context of pop song. That uniquely intriguing sound has won her a devoted following worldwide as was seen when she released “Butterflies,” her first album in eight years, and it debuted in the Top 10 of the Billboard Jazz chart.
