Nigerian Afrobeats star Rayce takes a giant step forward toward a banner year as Shanachie Entertainment is set to release his U.S. CD debut, African Juice, September 1, 2017, in conjunction with Rayce's Nigerian label Jebon International.
"Afrobeats is the most exciting new music we've heard in a while," says Shanachie General Manager Randall Grass. "Rayce is a superstar who has already proven that he can make hits. We think he is an ideally talented artist to introduce this music to America. Because we have a history with African music, Caribbean music and R&B, as well as working with such great artists as Angie Stone, Fela, Bunny Wailer, Dave Hollister and many more, we feel we are ideally positioned to break this music in the States." Shanachie has already released one single "Wetin Dey" which as a special re-mix featuring a guest vocal from fellow Afrobeats superstar Davido and now they have just issued his follow up single "Show Man." Rayce, who has scored such hits as "Roll," "21 Love," "Jack Sparrow" and "Wetin Dey," and has collaborated with such major Afrobeats stars as D'Banj (a founder of the genre) and Davido, brings his triple-threat talent to his productions as a singer, songwriter and producer.
Afrobeats is not the "Afrobeat" of Fela but a new mash-up of reggae dancehall, hip-hop, soca and West African beats. Drake's "One Dance," featuring Nigerian Afrobeats star WizKid, rode an Afrobeats groove and Alicia Keys' "In Common" sported Afrobeats inflections which became explicit on an 'Afrobeats' re-mix (SwizzBeats is reportedly a fan of the style). American and Caribbean artists such as Chris Brown, Sean Paul, Busy Signal and Machel Mavado have all guest on Afrobeats hits and Ghanian-American producer Nana Kwabena Tuffuor produced Jidenna's smash hit "Classic Man." With Africa-consciousness in vogue once again, impacting the fashion world as well as the music world, a dynamic dialogue between a new generation in America, the Caribbean and Africa are coming to the fore.
Rayce is from the Edo State Midwest part of Nigeria. He was born in Lagos in 1983 and raised there. He began making music as a drummer in church but soon quite naturally evolved to singing, songwriting and producing as well as playing. In 2011, he scored a breakthrough hit with the infectious "Roll," which he has followed with such hits as "Wetin Dey" (the re-mix featuring Davido), "Shiki-Shiki" (with Afrobeats pioneer D'Banj), "Just Like That," "Tetela," "Jack Sparrow," "21 Love," "Tested OK" and his current single hit "One For Me" and more.
Another single is now available, "African Juice"...check it out on all digital platforms and watch the lyric video here.

"Rayce is one of the best quality and multi-talented Nigerian Afrobeats artists," comments Jebon Records International General Manager "Ebony Black." I have great expertise in cross-over music. I believe Rayce will make a big wave in America when he is promoted properly. Congratulations Rayce! I am very happy for you and on behalf of our team here we appreciate Shanachie Entertainment U.S.A for this wonderful opportunity."

2016 was, in many ways, a year of innovation and excitement at Shanachie Entertainment. The year saw a plethora of exciting new signings, catalogs of previously unreleased material from legendary performers like Fats Domino and Mahalia Jackson, and of course a continued strong presence on the charts, at radio, and at awards nominations. The first quarter of the year was filled with exciting releases from newly signed artists of all genres. World renowned R&B diva Regina Belle, Seattle based alt-rock outfit Hey Marseilles, Soulful singer-songwriter Lee DeWyze, Country music songbird and hitmaker Lorrie Morgan, and lush R&B vocal group Silk, all new signings to Shanachie, put out some stellar material in the first quarter of 2016. DeWyze, whose work had previously been featured on AMC’s smash hit show The Walking Dead, landed a spot in CBS’ popular Sherlock Holmes spinoff Elementary with “Again”, a track from his March Shanachie debut Oil & Water.
As the year progressed, so did the exciting new signings and albums. Silky voiced R&B crooners Slim of 112 and Dave Hollister joined the Shanachie roster for the Spring/Summer, along with the creative and talented Anthony David, multi-platinum selling Country act Lonestar, and rich, smooth baritone Will Downing, whose talents have earned him millions of fans. Downing’s sophisticated, delightful reimagining of some of the greatest R&B divas’ work, Black Pearls, earned him not only strong sales figures but also the SoulTracks Readers Choice Award for “Best Male Vocalist”. Hollister’s The MANuscript, some of his finest and most personal work to date, climbed to #11 on the Billboard R&B Album Chart. Another Summer success story came from consistent Smooth Jazz hitmaker Euge Groove, whose album Still Euge hit #1 on the Billboard Contemporary Jazz Album Chart, with the single of the same name also becoming a smash hit at Smooth Jazz radio.
As 2016 turned the corner into the fall, Shanachie’s lineup of incredible artists and material continued to heat up with major successes in multiple genres. Gospel powerhouse Rev. Luther Barnes and his Restoration Worship Center Choir released their Shanachie debut God's Grace to immediate critical acclaim and strong sales, and the single, also titled “God’s Grace”, has climbed to #13 on the Billboard Gospel Radio Chart, and continues to perform into the new year. Masterful Jazz guitarist Chuck Loeb, who has been scoring hits for decades at Smooth Jazz radio, grabbed a Grammy nomination for “Best Contemporary Instrumental Album” for his latest masterpiece, Unspoken. Another new member of the Shanachie lineup has been making waves all over the Jazz world: supremely talented and sensuous young vocalist Lindsey Webster, whose honey toned pipes and sultry charm have earned the prestigious distinction of being the first vocalist to win two #1 Smooth Jazz Radio hits consecutively since Sade. Her excellent Shanachie debut, Back To Your Heart, has critics buzzing and quickly hit #1 on the Billboard Contemporary Jazz Album Chart, the second Shanachie album to do so in 2016.
As superlative a year in music as 2016 at Shanachie Entertainment was, 2017 only promises to deliver an equally exciting bevy of new, quality music. February 2017 will bring new music from luminaries like Smooth Jazz trumpet player, producer and multi-instrumentalist extraordinaire Rick Braun, as well as talented R&B singer Phil Perry. When Spring returns, so will three artists with a rich musical history: emotive gospel singer Ted Winn, contemporary jazz keyboard legend Jeff Lorber, and the sensational R&B songstress Avery*Sunshine, who will be following up on the tremendous success of her 2014 album The SunRoom, and the smash hit single “Call My Name”. Her new single, “Come Do Nothing”, is already climbing the radio charts rapidly. Spring will also bring new music from smooth jazz guitarist and singer Norman Brown, whose Shanachie debut Let It Go will be his first studio album in four years. As the year progresses, new and wonderful material from Maysa, Pieces of a Dream, and many others will light up the music world and Shanachie will continue to cement its role as a purveyor of some of the finest, most authentic music on the market in a host of genres. Stay tuned for more exciting updates on new projects as they are unveiled!

Growing up in an artist community, the daughter of loving hippie parents, in Woodstock NY, the allure of music was never far from Lindsey Webster. The adorable, instantly likeable and earthy singer/songwriter, who grew up listening to her parents' Jimi Hendrix, Beatles and Elvis Costello LPs and later the Supremes, once pursued medical school before finally settling on music. Webster has been taking the contemporary jazz world by storm, scoring a #1 hit with her soulful original "Fool Me Once." This feat is remarkable in numerous ways. Not only is Lindsey half the age of the male instrumentalists who dominate the genre, but her #1 is the first vocal driven song that has topped the Billboard smooth jazz chart since Sade's "Soldier of Love" in 2010. Lindsey exclaims, "This honor has changed the game for me. Once a dream comes into fruition, it really lights a fire."
November 4, 2016, Shanachie Entertainment will release Webster's anticipated label debut, Back To Your Heart. Randall Grass, Shanachie Entertainment General Manager states, "Lindsey Webster is an extraordinary vocalist who effortlessly melds R&B and jazz in a uniquely appealing 'jazzy soul' style that instantly connects with audiences and the world is already taking notice!" Influenced by everyone from Mariah Carey and Christina Aguilera to Steely Dan and Earth Wind and Fire, there is an honesty and authenticity that reverberates through Lindsey Webster's enchanting, smoky, rich and soulful honey-toned pipes. Joining forces with her husband, pianist and musical partner, Keith Slattery, the duo crafts evocative soundscapes that fuse the best elements of R&B, jazz, pop and soul. "The knowledge, style and intuition that Keith brings to my songs is amazing," says Lindsey of her husband. "Keith and I are extremely passionate and sensitive people who put the same pride and perfectionism into our writing, recording, and producing. Our philosophy is simple, we do what feels right. I believe this is what has helped us to forge our own sound."
The lead single on Back To Your Heart is the album's title track. It's an intoxicating and emotive number that sizzles and a song that Webster said wrote itself. "Keith was coming up with the idea for the chorus upstairs on his keyboard one day and I was downstairs cleaning," she shares. "Once he got the chord progression going and played it a few times, the words 'You gotta show me the way back to your heart' popped into my head." Back To Your Heart is a revealing and intimate portrait of Lindsey Webster's life. There are songs like "On Our Way," about Lindsey's personal path and the principals of the Laws of Attraction and her heartfelt and moving tribute to her mother Barbara, who passed in 2014. "One At A Time," was inspired by the Black Lives Matter movement and an inspirational speech that saxophonist Kirk Whalum (who guests on the song) gave at one of his concerts about the power of everyday Americans. Lindsey shares, "I realized that one person at a time is how we are going to come to some kind of peace. We have to love and respect and embrace our differences in order to get to the inner peace we need to create widespread peace." Lindsey's mission is to make an emotional connection with her fans. Somewhat of an old-soul, the young singer concludes, "With all the pop tunes out nowadays, literally about nothing, I think it's important to hold the torch for the artists before us who found it important to write real music." With the release of Back To Your Heart, Lindsey Webster is poised to find her way into your heart...and this is just the beginning!

After breaking into the music business as part of Teddy Riley’s hit-making group BlackStreet, Dave Hollister brought his gritty tenor, down home and soul-drenched 'keeping it real' approach to a string of hits. Creating numerous anthems about love, life, respect and lessons learned, the Gold-selling singer managed to merge inspirational material with edgy songs fusing the best of R&B and Hip Hop. Through it all, Hollister’s approach has been able to ‘keep it 100’ while dealing with the ups and downs of life from different perspectives, all held together by the honest and soulful expressiveness of his voice. Yet many feel that he has been under-recognized, possibly because of the multi-faceted nature of his personal and artistic journey. Shanachie Entertainment is proud to announce that, in partnership with Conjunction Entertainment, TopNotch Music, and Hollister Music Group, Shanachie will release The MANuscript, Dave Hollister’s new album, a state-of-the-nation exploration of the nature of men, women and relationships on the contemporary landscape. The album will be released September 9, 2016. “Definition Of A Woman,” the album's first single is produced by Walter W. Millsap III (Beyoncé, Alicia Keys, Jennifer Lopez) of Conjunction Entertainment and features a guest appearance from Angie Stone.
“We are really pleased to be releasing Dave Hollister’s new album, which I think will be received as a major artistic statement by him,” says Shanachie General Manager Randall Grass. “While it is widely recognized that he has a great voice, we don’t feel that the depth of his talent has gotten its due yet. We think this album will change that.”
Walter W. Millsap III of Conjunction Entertainment was drawn sign and work with Hollister based on his unique appeal. “Dave Hollister’s soul-stirring vocals have graced chart-topping pop, hip-hop, and R&B songs alike. Female fans are drawn to his signature style of singing, which is powerful and velvety. He has a significant male following as well, being that he speaks freely of his own transgressions and of his shortcomings and his struggle to live and love the right way.”
"When Walter shared Dave Hollister's new music with me, I grew very excited about the potential of the project," states Marv Mack, President of TopNotch Music. "Dave has one of the most powerful, creative and distinctive voices which makes him a driving force in R&B! Walter's production presentation and studio chemistry with Dave really makes the new album more then competitive in the urban market place. The new single "Definition Of A Woman" will touch the heart and souls of women on a universal level." The video for “Definition of a Woman” features fellow Chicagoan, actress LisaRaye, and can be viewed here.

While Bluey and Incognito continue to raise us to our feet with their downright funky and insatiable grooves, they also elevate our consciousness with their poignant visions and dreams on In Search Of Better Days. "We are living in troubled times and I see the plight of the young in my neighborhood, the refugee crisis in London and all over Europe. Corruption. Child abuse. There is political, religious and financial misguided ideology all around the globe," expresses Bluey, the mastermind behind Incognito. "My trade is music and social awareness, and as such, I am fully aware of those In Search Of Better Days, including myself!" Incognito's anticipated 17th studio album is steeped in deep, rich history, bridging the classic sounds of the past and the tonal and sonic languages of the present and future. The songs on In Search Of Better Days are songs of love and awareness, that question and challenge and that deliver optimism, joy, and hope. Incognito plans to tour the US in the Fall but until then you have the soundtrack to put you on the road to better days.
As a producer, songwriter and musician, Bluey has collaborated with a who's who list in music including James Brown, Stevie Wonder, George Benson, Chaka Khan, R. Kelly, Leon Ware, George Duke, Phillip Bailey, Steve Gadd, Maxi Priest and countless others. You would think that a 37-year-old band would rest on its laurels...right? No, not Incognito! The band is as creative and full of fire as it was at its conception in 1979. A rare feat in these days and times. The sound of Bluey's London for over three and a half decades weaves its way throughout In Search Of Better Days and gives it flesh, with splashes of Drum & Bass and Broken Beats, Rare Groove, Deep Soulful House, and even influences from the Rock and Blues that were at the heart of the UK scene in the late '60s and early '70s.
As the stunning and talented vocalist Maysa readies to turn 50 in August she also celebrates a Silver Anniversary with Incognito. "Working with Bluey & Incognito for the last 25 years has been incredible," says Maysa. "Bluey has taken me around the world several times and has allowed me to sing very special songs. Our magic is from Heaven and feels like it was destined." Maysa is featured on four tracks on In Search Of Better Days: "All I Ever Wanted" and Everyday Grind" which Bluey cites as among one of his favorites on the album. "'Everyday Grind' is the freshest thing I've done in years," confesses Bluey. "Sonically it's the sound of the London I know in combination with my favorite voice on the planet - Maysa. It's about a break up in a relationship that both Maysa and I could identify with and thus tell the tale convincingly because we both lived it!" Other personnel on In Search Of Better Days includes Stuart Zender and some of the UK's finest and most soulful voices Imaani, Vanessa Haynes, Tony Momrelle, Katie Leone, Vula Malinga. Also highlighted on the CD is the dynamic singer/pianist and label-mate Avery*Sunshine, drummer Richard Spaven, cosmic percussionist Jody Linscott, and Japanese guitar legend Tomoyasu Hotei of Kill Bill fame. Grounding the entire album are the usual suspects: Matt Cooper and Ski Oakenfull (keyboards); Francis Hylton (bass); Francesco Mendolia (drums); João Caetano (percussion); Francisco Sales (lead guitar); Sid Gauld (trumpet); Trevor Mires and Alistair White (trombone); Paul Booth, Jim Hunt, and Andy Ross (sax and flute); and Richard Bull (everything).
As Bluey continues blazing his own trail with his ever-expanding community of all-star artists, fueled by a passion for storytelling and creating unity through the groove, Incognito's In Search Of Better Days surely takes us there. This album is . . . Truth! The musical wizard concludes, "When you are lucky enough to be doing what you love for a living, that alone should be enough to make you want to carry on, add to that the friendships, the wonderful journeys around the world, the possibility to communicate and stimulate change for the better... The thrill just keeps getting stronger!"

Will Downing’s voice is one of the most distinctive, loved and instantly recognizable voices in R&B. His flawless, emotive, buttery-smooth and agile honey-toned baritone, along with his impeccable phrasing and jazz-fueled agile runs, seamlessly bridge the worlds of R&B and Jazz. “I pinch myself everyday because I can't believe that after all this time I'm still making music for a living,” shares the charismatic singer/songwriter. “19 albums and 28 years of recording later and I'm still blessed. Truly Blessed!!” Shanachie Entertainment will release Black Pearls (July 8, 2016), Downing’s highly anticipated CD and his first full-length album in six years. Black Pearls exemplifies the caliber of songs that Downing has long been associated with. An accomplished composer in his own right, Downing takes on the ultimate challenge on Black Pearls as he reinvigorates chart-topping gems originally performed by some of the greatest female voices to grace R&B. He rekindles the soul and ignites a fire in songs made famous by Chaka Khan, Deniece Williams, Randy Crawford, Cherrelle, Jean Carne and Phyllis Hyman, among others. While remaining true to the essence of the songs, Downing transforms them with the sweet nuances of his own irresistible signature sound. “Phyllis Hyman started this whole project,” confesses the Grammy nominated singer who has been dubbed the “Prince of Sophisticated Soul.” “I was having a conversation with a friend who also worked with Phyllis. We both agreed that "Meet Me On The Moon" was our favorite Phyllis tune. My friend suggested I remake it. I called my keyboardist/arranger Mike Logan to help with the song. After completing it, I thought maybe this is a great opportunity to pay tribute to other female artists that I have always loved. That’s how Black Pearls was born!”
Black Pearls opens with the album’s first single and 1988 Cherrelle hit “Everything I Miss At Home.” Downing originally met Cherrelle in the 90s during a USO tour. The charismatic and charming vocalist jokes, “My sister calls ‘Everything I Miss At Home’ the ‘you better do right song.’” Will’s sublime performance hits all the right notes, signaling for an enchanting journey ahead. “‘Don’t Ask My Neighbors’ has always been a favorite of mine,” shares Downing. “The subject of communication will never grow old." Downing admits to being a long-time fan of The Emotions, not only as a solo act but also as backing vocalists for the likes of Earth, Wind & Fire.
Angela Winbush has been a good friend of Downing’s for years and he returns the favor with an impeccable and unforgettable version her #1 hit on the Billboard R&B charts, “Your Smile.” “Everyone that hears the beginning of this song does one of two things. They either throw their hands in the air and say ‘That’s my jam’ or they look at me and say "no you didn't!’” Do it he does! Will Downing will leave you breathless with his stunning version.
When you hear the opening four notes of “Get Here,” you instantly know what song it is thanks to Brenda Russell, who wrote and recorded the song and Oleta Adams, who later scored a major international hit in the early 90s. Black Pearls unites Downing with many close associates including his wife, the beautiful and talented singer Audrey Wheeler, who has worked with everyone from Chaka Khan and the Pointer Sisters to Freddie Jackson and Narada Michael Walden, and that is just the short list. Celebrated saxophonists Najee and Kirk Whalum also make appearances on Black Pearls.
“Street Life” will put you in the groove as Downing serves up a swingin’ version of the Randy Crawford/The Crusaders hit featuring the tenor of saxophonist Najee and the funky keyboards of Mike Logan. Black Pearls keeps the hits flowing with Chaka Khan and Rufus’ timeless 1977 hit “Everlasting Love.” Together with Chris “Big Dog’ Davis, Downing wrote a riveting arrangement of one of Deniece Williams’ signature tunes, “Black Butterfly,” a powerful anthem written by Barry Mann/Cynthia Weil. Dexter Wansel’s “Nights Over Egypt,” is given a jazzy and exotic treatment and features stellar flute work from saxophonist Kirk Whalum. Phyllis Hyman’s “Meet Me On the Moon” is a standout, as Downing’s crystal clear and velvety smooth vocals, impeccable diction and tender phrasing conjure up the greatest of love stories. Black Pearls closes with the magnificent “Don’t Let It Go To Your Head” which features an orchestra and full horn section.
Black Pearls will be released everywhere on July 8th and can be pre-ordered now at amazon.com. Also, check out the lyric video for "Everything I Miss At Home" here.

February is poised to be an exciting month for Shanachie, with three stellar new music releases and the release of a much anticipated DVD!
First up is Seattle based Alt-Rock outfit Hey Marseilles, leading the charge with their self-titled album (and third studio effort) out today (2/5). Having broken out of the fertile Seattle music scene, where they have become one of the most popular bands, Hey Marseilles has won critical acclaim with their distinctive “chamber pop” sound. National taste-maker radio station KEXP has presented Hey Marseilles as part of their influential live in-studio performance broadcasts. Hey Marseilles’ new album is produced by hit-making producer Anthony Kilhoffer (John Legend, Rihanna, Adam Lambert), who fell in love with the band and enabled them to realize their most polished, commercial recording to date. The band’s outstanding songwriting is in full evidence on the initial “buzz track” “West Coast,” the hooky single “Eyes On You” and charmingly quirky “Perfect OK.” All in all the production preserves the band’s unique, multi-instrument textures even as the arrangements are streamlined for maximum accessibility.
Check out Hey Marseilles on iTunes and Amazon as well as their video for “Eyes On You".
Next up on Friday, February 12, is the release of accomplished singer/songwriter Lee DeWyze’s Oil & Water. Lee’s gifts have been steadily gracing the music scene for more than a decade. His creation “Blackbird Song” was featured in an episode of the wildly popular television series The Walking Dead, and Lee tours regularly to a legion of dedicated fans. Oil & Water, Lee DeWyze’s fifth solo effort and highly anticipated label debut for Shanachie provides his signature resonant, soulful and at times raspy tenor combined with his prodigious guitar playing. The end result serves to underscore themes of the heart as ten songs unravel into compelling poetic prose and striking arrangements...a must have for Lee’s die-hard fans and a new audience waiting to discover him.

Also on February 12th, Shanachie is pleased to release renowned Country Music songbird Lorrie Morgan’s long anticipated album, Letting Go…Slow. Letting Go...Slow is Lorrie’s first pure country album in six years; it reunites her with producer Richard Landis who produced some of her biggest hits. The album includes beautiful versions of such songs as “I’ve Done Enough Dying For Today” and “Ode To Billie Joe” (which has never been covered by a country artist) as well as new compositions such as “Slow,” all made timeless by Lorrie’s gorgeous vocals.

Angie Stone's long-awaited new album Dream hits #3 on the Billboard R&B Album chart in its first week of release and debuts at #59 on Billboard's Top 200. The album's first single "2 Bad Habits," is already Top 20 and rising!
RollingStone.com highlighted the album the week of release as among "the biggest, coolest and otherwise most noteworthy albums released." Billboard Magazine says "As evidenced by the lead single '2 Bad Habits'...the Stone soul singer that fans loved on 1999 debut album Black Diamond and subsequent follow-ups Mahogany Soul and Stone Love is back in full force" while the Huffington Post calls Dream "Introspective and honest." It is striking validation of the public's hunger for authentic R&B and a declaration that Angie Stone is a stone cold survivor that's still got it!

With the recent resurgence in the popularity of vinyl records worldwide and our own success with 2014’s release of the Augustus Pablo classic East Of The River Nile on vinyl, Shanachie is pleased to doubling up and reacting to demand for this once again popular format. This past year, three venerable catalog titles have been reissued on vinyl LP, with a fourth being released in January, 2016. A look at the albums:
Rita Marley - Who Feels It Knows It
Rita Marley has been one of the most prominent female vocalists on the Jamaican scene going back to the ska era of the early Sixties, when she led the recording group The Soulettes and met Bob Marley. She was there when The Wailers had the first successes, even singing backgrounds on some Wailers recordings, and launched her solo career in the late Sixties. When Peter Tosh and Bunny Wailer departed from The Wailers, Bob Marley recruited Rita along with Judy Mowatt and Marcia Griffiths to be his I-Three backing vocalists and they were a prominent and striking presence on all his major tours and recordings thereafter.
Who Feels It Knows It was Rita’s breakthrough debut album. Released in 1981, it is a landmark recording, delivering beautiful versions of compositions by Bob Marley and Bunny Wailer as well as a number of originals, many of them uplifting testimonials of Rastafarian spirituality. It is one of the greatest Reggae albums ever recorded by a female artist.
Shortly before Bob Marley’s death, Rita Marley recorded a lighthearted, upbeat anthem called “One Draw,” which celebrated ganja smoking. Released as a single, it immediately became a hit in Jamaica and when released in the U.S. by Shanachie it ran up the Billboard Dance Chart, making it one of the most iconic and popular Reggae singles of all time. It was included in the debut U.S. release of Who Feels It Knows It, helping it to become one of the best-selling Reggae albums by a female artist.
Hugh Mundell - Blackman’s Foundation Blackman’s Foundation is one of the great roots albums of the classic reggae era. Hugh Mundell, who was tragically murdered at the age of 21, was one of the most talented young roots reggae artists on the Jamaican scene. A protégé of dub legend Augustus Pablo, Hugh recorded the legendary roots-classic album Africa Must Be Free (By 1983) at the age of 16.
Blackman’s Foundation, co-produced by Hugh Mundell and the legendary Augustus Pablo, is one of only three Hugh Mundell albums ever released. As such it is a precious artifact of Mundell’s prodigious talent as it features Mundell’s keening, hypnotic declamatory vocals over deep, powerful reggae riddims.
Highlights of Blackman’s Foundation include the hit single "Can’t Pop No Style," the extended 12” version of the title track featuring Jah Bull and the classic single "Stop Them Jah."
R. Crumb and his Cheap Suit Serenaders - Number 2 This album was originally released in 1976 and has long been recognized as an iconic classic.
As an underground illustrator, Robert Crumb is a legendary figure in pop culture. He is also an accomplished musician who, together with his Cheap Suit Serenaders band, has entertained fans for decades. The group’s mixture of old popular numbers, traditional American classics, and humorous new compositions presents a delightful program of music as totally unique in its own way as Crumb’s brilliant comics are.
Crumb’s bandmates include multi-instrumental wizards Robert Armstrong and Allan Dodge, and now famous Hollywood director Terry Zwigoff.
Judy Mowatt - Black Woman Black Woman is widely regarded as a roots reggae classic - the greatest reggae album ever recorded by a female artist.
Judy Mowatt came to prominence as a member of Bob Marley’s I-Three backing group and as such was onstage before millions around the world. She launched her solo career in 1975 and released a string of acclaimed solo recordings over the next 15 years.
Highlights of Black Woman include “Joseph,” Judy’s moving gospel-infused ballad tribute to Bob Marley; splendid interpretations of two classic Wailers songs, “Concrete Jungle” and “Put It On,” the anthemic Rasta hymn “Sisters’ Chant” and her original message song “Slave Queen” and the title track.
