Armed with musicianship, intelligence, and an ingrained sense of rebellion, Flobots are looking to engage and activate fans one mind at a time.
Flobots’ Shanachie Entertainment debut, The Circle in the Square, is set for release August 28th, 2012. The Denver based high-energy musical powerhouse was initially thrust into the limelight with the success of their Top Ten Billboard chart hit “Handlebars.” The astute, socially aware activists fuse rock, hip-hop and other influences to transmit their message-driven music to the world. “With Fight With Tools we wanted to rally people with anthems, chants and slogans. On Survival Story the idea was to provide layers and look inward. The Circle in the Square is the best of both worlds: A deeply personal appeal to the souls of the masses,” reflects Jonny 5. “We’ve mined the emotional depths, uncovered the buried treasures, and polished them into jewels.” “The last five years has been a helluva roller coaster ride,” adds bassist Jesse Walker. “We learned a lot in the process, but the most important truth we took from it all was one we’d already discovered-- work hard, make good music, and give to your fans as much as they give you.”
Formed in 2005, Flobots are visionaries with a purpose. Truly a collective, Flobots’ distinctive sound features the alluring lyricism of its two emcees - Jonny 5 and Brer Rabbit, the violas and vocals of Mackenzie Gault, and the powerhouse rhythm section of bassist Jesse Walker and drummer Kenny O. Their progressive thinking and positive messages, along with their non-traditional instrumentation, witty rhyming, rocking anthems and dope breakbeat and hip hop grooves, put them in a class by themselves. Whether sharing the stage with jam bands, indie rock acts, or hip-hop groups, Flobots knows how to connect with their audience. After selling over 3000 copies of their first recording, Platypus (October 2005), the band released its first full-length record, Fight With Tools (October 2007). The band's alt-rock radio hit "Handlebars" hit #3 on the Billboard Modern Rock Track chart. The song, which was written during the Iraq war, resonated with fans. Flobots’ last CD was 2010’s well received Survival Story. Flobots are authentic. They walk the walk. As busy as they are onstage they are equally busy off stage with their non-profit Flobots.org. From the beginning, Flobots have always seen music and social change as two sides of the same coin, because they know first-hand how music can touch the life of a young person. On the road, on stages around the world, and in the studio, the members of this Denver band have seen music open the minds and motivate youth to make powerful changes in themselves, their relationships and their communities.
